A summary of The Internet Gambling Prohibition, Poker Consumer Protection and Strengthening UIGEA Act of 2012 has been released. The new legislation is the brain child of Senators John Kyl and Harry Reid. The legislation will have to be signed by the President to become a law.
The new law will prohibit all forms of unlicensed gambling and will create special cases for online poker. The Office of Online Poker Oversight (OOPO) will monitor the control of poker and will have additional regulators that will monitor the issuance of licenses.
The new legislation if made into law would prohibit states from offering games that mimic casino or slot titles and will ban online poker international player pools. However, the proposed legislation would license some gaming machine device manufacturers to offer online poker services.
The new law if comes into effect, would impose a five-year ban on entities that offered online gambling to US residents as breach of Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) unless the entity proves in a federal court that no state or federal law was breached. The new legislation if passed into law will be known as a revolution in the online gambling world as it will change the way in which online poker sites operate.
